The Geochemistry lab provides a full range chemical analysis of geological materials. Rocks, minerals and waters can be characterised for their trace element composition and isotopic signatures with the most advanced instruments based on mass spectrometry. The Lab is also equipped to perform high-spatial resolution geochronology on common U-rich accessory phases

The access is open to UNIMI staff, students and external personnel on request

The Geochemistry lab @ UNIMI was financed by the Italian Ministry of the University and Research (MUR) through the Dipartimento di Eccellenza 2018-2022 – project ProDE

The instrumentation was delivered late June 2021 and installation completed in October 2021

A new Time of Flight (ToF) ICP-MS has been installed in June 2024, financed by the Italian Ministry of the University and Research (MUR) through the Dipartimento di Eccellenza 2023-2027 – project ProDE 2. This is the first installation of ToF-ICP-MS in Italy!

Our research group, leaded by prof. Massimo Tiepolo, is currently sampling amphibole-bearing Archean igneous ultramafic rocks to improve our understanding of the Archean mantle. See some photos of the field activities here and more info of the project here.
